A Palmerston North toddler admitted to the Starship children's hospital in Auckland after being beaten a week ago is off life-support and in a stable condition.
A woman charged with assault is being held at Mt Eden Prison awaiting a second appearance.
Ambulance officers found the girl unconscious in a Whangarei home with serious head injuries, a broken arm, cigarette burns and bruises over her body.
A hospital spokeswoman said the girl, who was still in a drug-induced coma, was no longer in a critical condition.
