A top Australian cyclist left in a critical condition after crashing during New Zealand's foremost cycling tour has come through surgery well, his parents say.
Paul Crake, 29, was flown to Christchurch after going down a bank on his bicycle and hitting a fence post during the Tour of Southland, near Lumsden, on Saturday.
He suffered serious spinal injuries, with fractures and dislocations to several vertebrae.
