Information for motorists

The Automobile Association yesterday began a new traffic information service.

AA spokesman Phil Allen says it will initially provide motorists with quality information on state highway and local road conditions, and domestic and international airport timetables.

In coming weeks it would provide in-car navigation unit updates, ferry timetables and a traffic alert service.

"It will enable New Zealanders to access and customise traffic information in a way that helps them commute, go on holiday road trips, or simply better plan their day to day driving," Mr Allen said.

To start, AA Traffic will use data from the NZ Transport Agency, police, local authorities, airports and AA members reporting incidents.
