A study for Auckland Transport has calculated the "social cost" of cycle crashes for the region's biking routes. The results can be viewed in this interactive graphic. It provides crash and social cost data for 50 cycling routes in Auckland.
• Social cost measures the total cost of road crashes to the nation and includes loss of life and quality of life, lost productivity, and medical, legal, court and property-damage costs.
• Tamaki Drive had the highest crash-route ranking with 84 bike crashes and a social cost $15.6m.
• Gladstone Rd/St Stephens Ave, Parnell came in at second place with 9 bike crashes and a social cost $1.3m.
