Infection-risk prompts contact lense product recall

A cleaning solution used on contact lenses is being urgently recalled because of a link to a rare eye infection.

Advanced Medical Optics (AMS) said users should immediately stop using its "Complete MoisturePlus" contact lens solution and replace their lenses and containers if the cleaning solution had been used on them or stored.

It also said if anyone had eye problems they should contact their eye care practitioner immediately.

The company said it would refund buyers who bought the cleaning solution to June 30.

It added: "AMO believes the likelihood of users in New Zealand experiencing an adverse reaction is low."

It said the recall was initiated by the company after consultation with the Ministry of health and it apologised for any inconvenience.
