Earthquake relief
Unicef urgently needs family-sized tents for child survivors of the Gujarat earthquake. They will be used as "child-safe" areas and temporary classrooms. Offers of tents or freight sponsorship should be made by calling 0800 800 194.
MPs return
MPs get back to work after an invigorating Christmas break. Week 1 of the new political year will be dominated by Helen Clark's statement of Government policy at 10 am, followed by a couple of days of reply from the opposition.
Astor back
The cruise liner Astor, fresh from a jaunt around the Bay of Islands, docks at Princes Wharf at 7.30 am before flitting off to Wellington at 8 pm.
Shell Trophy
First class cricketers will be hoping for blues skies after a disrupted start to round 8 of the Shell Trophy competition. Auckland host Central Districts at Eden Park, Northern Districts take on Canterbury at Cobham Oval in Whangarei and Wellington play Otago at the Basin Reserve.

UN workshop
Unifem New Zealand is hosting a workshop for the United Nations Division for the Advancement of Women at The Heritage, corner Wyndham and Hobson Sts, for Pacific Island nations.
Sherpa aid
The Himalaya Trust is holding a fundraising lunch on the cruise ship Crown Odyssey this Saturday to raise money for the Sherpa communities of Nepal. Tickets are limited to 100 and cost $200 each. For details call (09) 237 1049.

After selling out their scheduled performances, the pipers and drummers of the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards are playing extra 5 pm shows in Napier (February 19, Municipal Theatre), Hamilton (February 21, Founders Theatre) and Auckland (February 22, Aotea Centre).
