An industrial building fire in Hastings has now been brought under control, the fire service has confirmed.
Central Fire Communications' shift manager Mike Wanoa told the Herald soon after 10pm that crews from six fire appliances were fighting the fire on Nelson St in North Mahora.
By midnight that had halved and the fire was under control.
A fire investigator was on the way to the scene, Wanoa said.
Firefighters were initially called just before 10pm and told wooden pallets next to a building were on fire.
They arrived to find the 100 metre by 30m building was also on fire.
