A Rotorua man who indecently assaulted a 12-year-old Carterton girl he met online has been sentenced to five months' community detention.
Kayne Storm McIntyre, now 19, was sentenced by Judge Bruce Davidson in Wellington District Court on Monday, to five months' community detention, 80 hours' community work, and nine months' supervision.
McIntyre had previously pleaded guilty to a charge of indecent assault and a charge of travelling to see a person aged under-16 after sexual grooming.
He was 18 when he and the girl met on the internet chat-room website, Omegle, which uses the tag line "Talk to strangers!" and pairs people at random.
He had been chatting to her online for six months and drove from Rotorua to pick her up from her Carterton home on Anzac Day last year.
