In the grip of a lucky number 12

It's the last triple date sequence of the century - but tomorrow's 12.12.12 is extra-special for a Hokitika girl who will turn 12.

Nicole Singer's family have been aware of the significance of the date since shortly after she was born.

"It dawned on me quite early on," Nicole's mother, Lee-Anne Singer, told the Herald. "It's been in the back of my head for a long time. And probably over the last three of four years she's been quite aware of it herself. She's really excited about it. She's been thinking about it for a very long time."

Mrs Singer said that as Nicole had already had a party, the occasion would be marked with a low-key family dinner.

At 12.12.12pm, tomorrow will offer fans of the number 12 six repeats - 12.12.12 12.12.12.

Auckland numerologist Michelle Buchanan said that while the repetition was unusual, there was nothing particularly lucky about the date.

"It's just a normal day."

However, wedding venues have reported strong bookings for the day, despite it being mid-week.

Sue Humphrey of West Auckland venue Cassels said her venue was booked 18 months ago by a couple who cited the date's repetition as the reason.

But the date was not to be so lucky for them. The couple later cancelled the booking, Mrs Humphrey said. "They parted ways."
