Sara Tetro
Director of 62 Models and Talent, and 62 Management
What was your first job?
My first job in this industry was as a booker for Maisie Bestall-Cohen. A friend who worked there suggested me to Maisie, who asked me to go in for an interview.
I worked there for about five years, and must have been 19 when I started. I can't remember what my starting pay was but I do remember that the money wasn't the motivation for me. It was a fun place to work.
Did you enjoy it?
I didn't know much about the industry so I had to learn a lot, which I enjoyed. I loved contact with people and the cross-section of characters I dealt with. Most of the elements I didn't like were things that I have learnt a lot from and use to my advantage in my company.
I thought Maisie was a great boss. A lot of the things I liked about her management style, I have continued on to this day.
What did you learn?
I realised that things I learnt at home rolled over into my professional life.
The guidelines you learn in a big family are not overly dissimilar to what you use working on a communal desk, where there are three, four or five bookers.
You don't always work with people who are your best friends, who have the same interests; and not many people are initially tolerant of that.
Why did you leave?
It was time for me to get more growth in my position.
Any advice for someone starting out?
You need to put preconceived ideas to the side and let things open out in front of you. Give the job time to develop. Ideally get yourself into an arena that will lead to something that makes you happy. I still get up in the morning and look forward to going to work.
