Maori TV board satisfied with recruitment of CEO
26 Apr 02
The Directors of the Maori Television Service, say they are satisfied that the process they went through to recruit John Davy to the position of CEO and Interim CEO was both robust and correct.
The chairman of the Maori Television Service Board, Derek Fox today gave a full report to the Minister of Finance, the Hon. Dr Michael Cullen on the recruitment and the process of checks carried out after deciding that Mr Davy was the preferred candidate.
The Minister of Maori Affairs, Hon. Parekura Horomia has also been briefed.
A review of the recruitment process, yesterday and today, shows that the checks carried out at the time and since, met the Board's requirements sufficiently to proceed with an appointment.
Checks were made with Mr Davy's three most recent employers one of whom was the Chairman of Asia Pacific Investment Advisors Limited and each provided a satisfactory response. Checks were also made of some of his recent clients - their responses too, were satisfactory.
Mr Davy has supplied a copy of his MBA degree, from the Ashland School of Business at Denver State University granted in June 1976.
Mr Davy has also provided details of some highly confidential work he carried out the for the British Columbia Securities Commission in 1986.
It would appear that the writer of stories alleging that Mr Davy was unconnected with Hockey in Asia is not aware that Mr Davy was talking about ice hockey.
In conclusion, Mr Fox says that the checks carried out to date enabled the Board to proceed, and the work carried out by Mr Davy so far in the start up stage of Maori TV has been pleasing.
"I hope this will now lay to rest and allow us to get on with establishing the channel."
Mr Fox says he is happy to clarify any outstanding matters related to this issue.
