An import company has been convicted after failing to establish the safety of Christmas lights it was selling.
Imports Direct was fined $600 and ordered to pay $130 costs in the North Shore District Court after it admitted breaches of the Electricity Regulations.
The company opened a temporary gift store on Auckland's North Shore last year intending to sell decorative lights.
But an investigation found it had not ensured they had been tested and approved for electrical safety.
