KEY POINTS:
State Service Commissioner Mark Prebble should widen his investigation into how Immigration Service staff were instructed to override policy when processing residence applications for the family members of their boss, the National Party said yesterday. National's state services spokesman, Gerry Brownlee, said the case of how residence applications from Mary-Anne Thompson's extended family had been dealt with was getting murkier by the day.
Dr Prebble is now running an inquiry into whether the original report, which took place in the first half of last year, had been responded to properly. Mr Brownlee said this was not good enough and he must now either start investigating the scale of the alleged offending or announce a new independent investigation.
