Illegal hunters shoot goat, fire bullet into outhouse near Tuatapere

The illegal hunting took place in Rowallan Forest in Southland.

Illegal hunters shot a pet goat and an outhouse after entering residential properties near Tuatapere, police say.

Riverton police said they were investigating reports of illegal hunting at Rowallan Forest in Southland on June 17.

A black double-cab ute entered two residential properties in the area, police said.

"At one of the properties the occupants of the vehicle killed a pet goat and fired a shot through the door of an outhouse, " police said.

Police said they were looking to identify the occupants of the vehicle which had a light bar on the roof to help with hunting visibility.

Police believed a "rifle of some sort" was used to shoot a pet goat and an outhouse on one of the properties.
