The exhumation of former presenters Dougal Stevenson, Lindsay Perigo, David Beatson and Jennie Goodwin to read the news on Breakfast this week as part of TVNZ's 40th birthday celebrations was a great idea.
Some of the small-screen stars had aged better than their peers, but all of them retained the professional and mellifluous tones that made them voices of authority in the early days of the telly.
Seeing them, though, made many hungry for more.
The desire for presenters who are more worldly, able to enunciate and articulate their words clearly and who are over 30 was strong amongst my Thursday night callers.
They were older callers, so perhaps it was a bit of nostalgia combined with a desire to see people on television who looked like them.
No doubt about it though, those oldies sure are goodies.
