There was one good thing about seeing the thousands and thousands of people, standing in line for hours over a couple of days, in the hope of securing one of 150 mostly low-paid jobs at a new Countdown supermarket.
And that was that so many people want to work.
Anyone who thinks people on the dole are just bludgers who are allergic to a bit of sweat would have to reconsider after seeing the photos in the paper this week.
The need to feel productive and to be positively contributing to your community is inherent in most people, and surely the number of people ready, willing and able to report for duty is testament to that.
