Didn't Mathieu Bastareaud's mama tell him that liars will always be found out? Especially in the age of CCTV footage.

Doubts have been swirling around Basteraud's story of being jumped by five Polynesian youths ever since it came out. Some of the players had female companions - local girls - and when they went back to the hotel there was nothing wrong with Basteraud's eye.

I think he's still being economical with the truth. He's telling everyone he's embarrassed because he'd been drinking and fell over and hit his head on a table in his hotel room. There's a Tui's billboard if ever I heard one.

Bastareaud made a fool of himself and his team, and sadly the two-week tour by the French will probably be remembered for Bastareaud's duplicity rather than the team's great footy.
