Last week, as is typical, I got on my high horse and spouted forth.
That's my job. Pick a topic and give an opinion. Some people don't seem to understand that.
I've had a couple of letters from disgruntled readers asking why I have to be so opinionated.
Um, that would be because I'm paid to be.
Anyway, you can really only bang on like a pork chop if you're sure of your facts. And generally I am.
However, last week - whether because I was writing the column at 1am, or because I am not terribly good at maths - I made a mistake.
When I was sniggering that the Destiny Party polled lower in the election than either the Legalise Pot party in 2005 and the Bill and Ben party in 2008, I was looking at the results for an electorate, not the final national results.
The actual party results for 2005 were 0.62 per cent for the Destiny Party and 0.25 per cent for the Aotearoa Legalise Cannabis Party. Bill and Ben in 2008 got 0.56 per cent.
Destiny Church hasn't asked for an apology, which surprises me. They're usually very quick off the mark. But they're owed one. In 10 years of Sunday column writing, that's the first fact I have got wrong, to my knowledge.
There might be more, but no one's told me about them. Clearly, this is God's punishment for daring to diss the Bish.
Maybe Brian Tamaki really is God's homeboy.
