Coup leader George Speight released all four women being held by his group: Tourism Minister Adi Koila Nailatikau - daughter of former President Ratu Sir Kamisese Mara - Associate Health Minister Marieta Rigamto and backbench MP Akanisi Koroitmana. It had been hoped that all the hostages would be released, but talks between Speight and Fiji's military rulers broke down without agreement.
