Internet provider ihug yesterday blamed a problem at a telephone exchange for the loss of its broadband service all day to customers nationwide.
The company did not return calls to the Herald last night but on its website said a problem at the Mayoral Drive exchange, a core part of the ADSL broadband network, affected its internet service from about 8am.
The ihug 0800 number crashed in the afternoon when incoming calls overloaded the call centre.
The provider's woes this month have included 20,000 customers losing email services at one stage.
