The Herald on Sunday's Insight pages have been judged the best section of any New Zealand newspaper. The newspaper enjoyed more success at the annual Qantas Media Awards on Friday night, with 13 winners and finalists in a range of categories.
The Herald on Sunday was a finalist for best front page and for best weekly newspaper - an award won by our sister paper, the Weekend Herald, which also won Newspaper of the Year.
Paul Holmes won best entertainment feature for a profile on Temuera Morrison and was a finalist as best columnist - an award he won last year.
Former assistant editor Stephen Cook won best general feature for a piece on Bailey Kurariki's parole hearing. Senior reporter David Fisher won best magazine health feature for work he did while at The Listener. The Herald on Sunday's sports section, motoring pages and Detours magazine were named finalists in their respective categories.
Editor Shayne Currie (headline writing), and Peter Calder (editorial writer) were also finalists.
In another recognition of the paper's journalism, senior writer Nicola Shepheard has won scholarships to the respected Columbia University, New York, to study towards a Masters degree in journalism.
