Q. When heading north on State Highway 1 from Greenlane to North Shore in the middle lane, the first two road signs instruct drivers to use the right lane for North Shore whereas the third road sign says the middle lane can also be used. This is misleading. - A Reader, Remuera.
A. You can use either the middle or the right-hand lane to get to the North Shore, but these signs are only temporary anyway because of all the construction work in the area. When it's all finished, new signs will remove any confusion.

Q. Why is there no direct Stagecoach bus service from the city to the airport? Currently you can get a bus to Mangere Town Centre and then another on to the airport. - Shaun Houlahan, Auckland.
A. The Auckland Regional Council contracts Stagecoach to run the present service. Fergus Gammie, the ARC's passenger transport planning manager, says they recognise a need for a more direct service and will be looking into it.

Q. Why is it not possible to consider a rail link from most parts of Auckland City to the airport? - Bob Atford, New Lynn, Peter Fataaiki, Mangere East, Bruce Jackson, Takapuna.
A. In Transit's 10-year plan there is provision for a new bridge across the Manukau Harbour, to be built alongside the present bridge. Auckland Regional Council is very keen that the new structure should incorporate a railway line across the harbour, to connect the old Penrose-Onehunga line to a new line through Mangere to the airport.
