Q: Are there any plans to put a pedestrian crossing at the top of Woodward Rd near the intersection with Carrington Rd in Mt Albert? Students at Unitec and Gladstone Primary School frequently dash across the road or weave in and out of cars. It seems prudent to provide for their safe passage. Maureen O'Higgins, Pt Chevalier.
A: The upgrade of this intersection is scheduled to begin next month or in July. It includes a pedestrian refuge about 25m south of the intersection.
Q: If you take the Ellerslie-Panmure offramp southbound, there are two perfectly good lanes to queue in. The traffic can really only go two ways, left into E-P Highway or right towards Great South Rd. I want to go right, so I get in the right-hand lane. But the lane markings disappear, and drivers in the left-hand lane see me as fair game and refuse to let me into the access for Great South Rd. Shouldn't Transit mandate the lanes for left and right turning vehicles? Robert Kingston, Auckland.
A: Transit investigations show it is motorists at fault, rather than lane markings, but they will see if something can be done to ease the situation.
Q: Around January the surface was ground off the seal on the eastbound lanes at the Green Lane East/Ladies Mile/Remuera Rd intersection - then the work stopped. When will the resealing be done? Eric Rawson, Remuera.
A: Work stopped while Occupational Safety and Health investigated the death of a worker after an accident at the site. Now Vector has begun maintenance work between Minto Rd and Green Lane East. Once it is done, contractors will repave the area, probably around the end of the year.
Q: Some time ago, we were told the lights at Glenmore Rd and Pakuranga Rd would be changed to stop traffic coming down Pakuranga Rd from Howick. When will this be fixed? Jack Carter, Farm Cove.
A: Manukau City Council is working on a final design for the intersection which will address this problem. The work should be done near the year's end.
