KEY POINTS:
Q: Are the new lane changes on the Northwestern Motorway citybound permanent? Transit has built an extra Port lane and made traffic to the southern link and the city move a lane to the left. Vehicles now change lanes all over the place around the Western Springs onramp, causing a longer delay. Shaun Danks, Auckland, among others.
A: The changes on the Northwestern are temporary, until the new links between the Port and North and the Northwestern and North open on the 18th and 19th of this month. The final layout will be in place in the new year. Transit suggests you keep an eye on the overhead signs to help you to find the correct offramp or link.
Q: After several near-misses, can you please clarify who has the right of way at the intersection of Jervois, Herne Bay and West End Rds? Pip Fleming, Westmere.
A: A driver heading towards the city on Jervois is controlled by a stop sign and must give way to all other vehicles. The Jervois Rd driver heading away from the city is controlled by a give-way sign. This driver must give way to vehicles turning left and right out of West End but has precedence over the vehicle at the stop sign.
Q: Why have traffic lanes at the intersection of Mt Eden and Boston Rds changed? There used to be three lanes heading into the city, with a bus lane, a straight-ahead lane and a right-turning lane into Boston. This latter has now become a southbound lane, so the right-turning and citybound traffic are all in one lane, with resultant chaos. Merril Bourne, Mt Roskill.
A: Again, this is a temporary thing, while a stormwater main is repaired and resurfacing work done on Mt Eden Rd. It will go back to the usual layout when the work is finished.
