KEY POINTS:
Can you please tell me the timeline for the Greenlane roundabout roadworks? It seems to be taking forever to complete, with queues on Green Lane East all the way back to Peach Parade. Also, how come the new onramp from Green Lane West is still not being used, even though it has been finished for some time? Adam Soldinger, Mt Wellington.
Improvements to the roundabout are scheduled to be completed by next week, except for the section of Green Lane East between the roundabout and Nolan Rd, which should be finished at the end of February. The new Green Lane West onramp to the motorway is not quite finished yet, but it should be done by the end of March.
There will be two lanes on this onramp, merging into one before it hits the motorway. Motorists turning on to the onramp from Green Lane West will use a slip lane rather than giving way.
The extra lane for traffic on both sides of Green Lane East between Great South Rd and the roundabout should help ease traffic flows. For more information on the project visit transit.govt.nz or aucklandcity.govt.nz
People turning right from Te Irirangi Drive on to Boundary Rd in Manukau City get a rather bumpy ride. There is a depression in the road surface that's been there for some time and it seems to be getting worse. Is there a chance it could be fixed? Keith Laird, Manukau City.
The council is aware of the problem and has asked its maintenance contractors to fix it as soon as possible.
Is there any progress on the opening date of the Wainui Rd offramp off the Northern Motorway? Rob de Rooy, Auckland.
This project is still in the planning stage, as a joint venture between Transit and the Rodney District Council, but work is expected to begin at the end of this year.
On the way into Auckland from the south you travel on the Waikato Expressway and the Southern Motorway, and pass by the Mt Wellington Highway. Why all the different names for what seem to be the same things? Mikhal Stone, Sandringham.
A motorway does not allow pedestrians or cyclists, and you can only get on to it at onramps and interchanges. An expressway looks similar but there is provision for pedestrians and bikes, and people whose properties or businesses lead on to it can access it. A highway is a glorified name for a main road.
