KEY POINTS:
Q: Why, at the Tristram Ave southbound offramp from the Northern Motorway, is the Forrest Hill sign spelled with one R? The suburb is named after Mr Forrest. The other Forest Hill is in Henderson.
Joan Clark, Auckland.
A: No sinister reason, it's just a spelling mistake, and it will be corrected early next year. Incidentally, it's managed to get by without mention for the last 15-20 years, so well spotted.
Q: New roading gives us a free left turn southbound from the Northern Motorway to head east on Tristram Ave. This has been finished for some time yet it's still not opened. Some enterprising soul recently removed the cones blocking it off and it worked fine, but now they are back. What's going on?
Anne Jones, North Shore.
A: When roading projects are finished, Transit does an audit, to make sure the changes are safe and will do the job. This is what's happening at Tristram Ave. Various minor improvements have been found to be necessary, and then the road will be signed off as fit for purpose, and ready and safe for use.
Q: Why are cars allowed to park during the day in Gillies Ave on the Epsom Girls' Grammar School side? I would guess the parking areas have a capacity for 10 cars, but they block one lane leaving the major intersection of Gillies and Alpers Ave. This means that the inside lane has to merge with the outside lane shortly after the lights, which causes hold-ups. I think it is a clearway after 4.30pm, but it should be no stopping at all times, especially on such a major road, and one of the main airport routes.
Alan Kemp, Auckland.
A: The council thanks you for bringing this to their attention. They are working on a project to review key travel routes between the city and the airport, and as part of this, they'll take a look at parking on Gillies Ave.
