KEY POINTS:
The opening night of the Auckland chapter of the Telecom 2007 New Zealand Film Festival saw the screening of director Frank Oz's very amusing British comedy, Death at a Funeral, following drinks at the always-stunning venue the Wintergarden.
The evening was kicked off in the traditional manner with a slew of speeches, including one by Tearepa Kahi, director of winning short film Taua, and another by Prime Minister Helen Clark, who was in a hurry to get to the opening night of the opera, held at the nearby Aotea Centre.
The terribly cerebral guest list included 3News' Mike McRoberts, Frontseat frontman Oliver Driver, Campbell Live's Jacqui Brown and the always well-dressed Noelle McCarthy.
HIGH POINT: The movie - ex-Muppeter Oz (Miss Piggy, Kermit the Frog and Yoda are but a few of his creations) obviously works well with real live people too.
LOW POINT: The tardy crowd - plying a hungry audience with alcohol before a movie equals a very late start.
