KEY POINTS:
The annual Fight for Life is Auckland's night to channel pure Las Vegas, and this year there were the usual plunging necklines, Brazilian dancers and high rollers in attendance, but sadly the boxing itself was't quite as entertaining.
The 2007 Fight for Life - benefiting the Child Cancer Foundation - started with a bang, with light middleweight fighter Harry Venka winning by a unanimous decision over local favourite Dion McAbney.
The fight followed a live auction that saw items such as a beauty therapy package fetch more than $7000.
There followed a string of lacklustre performances before the final fight, in which heavyweight Shane Cameron retained his IBF Pan Pacific, WBA Pan African and WBO Asian Pacific titles after replacement Jucimar Hipolato went down three times in the first round, effectively spelling a ver early end to proceedings.
Fight for Life organiser Dean Lonergan said that "to say I'm disappointed is an understatement", but the band played on and the VIP after party at Leo Molloy's bar Cowboy was apparently still going the next day.
