Over the next few days the Herald will be running a series of articles on child abuse and highlighting charities working to end it. See the bottom of this page for today's charity.

KEY POINTS:
Every time a child is killed in New Zealand, you can feel the outrage of the public.
Petitions call for the end of child abuse, angry citizens stage protests and message boards fill up with shocked and horrified people wanting justice for our dead babies.
Sometimes, in the middle of the anger, it is easy to forget there are people and organisations out there trying to prevent child abuse and helping its victims.
Today, as the Herald starts a series looking at child abuse in New Zealand, we also invite readers to do something to help.
Over the next five days we will profile five charitable organisations trying to make a difference.
Some have programmes to try to prevent abuse before it happens. Others are left dealing with children who have suffered violence, neglect and emotional harm - often at the hands of their own parents.
With these profiles we will run an appeal, giving details on how people can help that charity. The money will go to programmes that directly benefit child-abuse victims or campaigns aiming to prevent violence.
The Herald will report back over the next few weeks on how donations to the organisations are progressing.
Today we start with Grandparents Raising Grandchildren, a support group for the 4000 grandparents who have taken on the fulltime care of children abused or neglected by their parents or other close relatives.
