Sometimes things just fall into place
- such as in our
report early this morning
[since updated] about a videotape showing kidnapped NZ cameraman Olaf Wigg and American journalist Steve Centanni. Although our evening staff usually finish at 1.30am, last night was different. Megan had asked to work a split shift, leaving for a couple of hours and then returning to finish up around 3.30am. As a result, she was on hand when news of the videotape came through from Gaza and she was able to get it on to the website right away.
It wasn't the first time for Megan to do come through for us in the middle of the night. Five years ago, she was on duty when the TV monitors above our newsdesk showed the first of the World Trade Center towers on fire and thus began our coverage of the Sept 11 terror attacks.
