Reader comment:
I would like to thank you for placing Dame Te Atairangikaahu's death/life notice on the front page of today's Herald. I have often found that the only time Maori appear on the front page of your paper is when they are in trouble with the law or an All Black. Previous appearances on the front page have rarely held Maori in such a positive light. Although it is sad to read of her passing, I appreciated that her life, and the achievements within it, were most remembered and valued. As you stated, she has done a lot for her people and I thank you for the dedication you gave to a positive role model to all Maori. I hope that this is just the start of things to come - informing the people of NZ of the many good things that Maori do too! Naku noa.

The death of the Maori Queen
, Dame Te Atairangikaahu, late yesterday afternoon was certainly not a surprise, given her failing health in recent months. But her passing is a profound shock to our nation, made more poignant by the obvious affection for her felt by so many throughout the country and in other lands. On such an occasion we are accustomed to hearing tributes from our leaders. Today on nzherald, however, we'd like to hear the views of all New Zealanders. Please share with other nzherald readers your memories of Dame Te Ata, and your feelings on hearing of her death, via our
Tributes
page.
