In April, owners AOL announced Bebo would either be shut down or sold due to users deserting the site for Facebook and MySpace.
Last week Facebook introduced simpler privacy controls after its settings were criticised.
In May 2008, Bebo users in New Zealand were given full access to other users' accounts.
Various users who logged in under their own account were switched over to the accounts of other users at random intervals, some people gaining access to over 20 different accounts.
