Masterton's Queen Elizabeth Park island could be in line for a new family facility and plans are afoot for it to be constructed in double-quick time.
The district council's Parks and Open Spaces Task Group is floating the idea of building a facility where parents and children can spend time together, have picnics and enjoy themselves, on the island in the centre of the park.
Task Group chairman Gary Caffell said the plan would be to have a "community-build" as happened when Kids Own Playground was built but its role would be different from the playground.
Mr Caffell said the group wants someone to come forward who is capable of project managing the proposal and that the idea was for volunteer labour to construct the entire facility "over a weekend, two at the most."
He said once a project manager is found there would be a couple of "brainstorming sessions" at which anyone with ideas on what should be constructed could have their say. "From that plans will be drawn up and presented to council for approval. The miniature train people have already come up with a proposal that will be very much considered and we understand the Cancer Society is keen to have a memorial garden there and I think that would be brilliant," Mr Caffell said.
