Carterton supermarket staff can shoot hoops with the best of them.
New World Carterton netball team The Iconics won the annual New World Staff Netball Tournament for the Wellington region last Wednesday, beating the Village People from New World Khandallah in a closely fought final at TSB Arena in Wellington.
Nine New World stores vied for the title, coming from Wairarapa, the Hutt Valley and Wellington.
The tournament is designed to be part of New World's sponsorship of the Silver Ferns and is umpired by New Zealand Netball representatives.
"The regional staff championships are team-building events for players and supporters and everyone's there to have fun, but at the same time we have some really slick players so it's important to keep the competition enjoyable and challenging for everyone," said Foodstuffs manager Kristie McGregor.
