Police deny they had any involvement in a television crew's attempt to interview Chris and Cru Kahui's mother while she was at a police station.
Officers say they were not aware that Susan Wood from TV One's Close Up programme tried to interview Macsyne King inside the Counties Manukau police headquarters in Otahuhu until after it had happened.
The Herald yesterday reported that the children's father, Chris Kahui snr, will not go back to the station after the "debacle".
Ms King refused to speak to Wood when asked about the investigation into the deaths of her children.
The 3-month-old twins died on June 18 from severe injuries, prompting police to launch a double-murder inquiry.
"This case has created extraordinary media attention and camera people and reporters have been camping outside the district headquarters building on and off over the last week," a police spokeswoman said.
Wood and her cameraman approached Ms King as she waited for whanau members to join her in the public foyer. The spokeswoman said the police did not condone the interview attempt.
