As part of our series The jobs challenge, we'd like to hear from you.
The issue: How can we generate enough jobs, and paying incomes which are high enough, to attract people to stay in or come to New Zealand?
Some specific questions:
1. Investment: What key policies would encourage investment in high-paying businesses?
2. Knowledge: How can we change policies and attitudes to maximise our technological progress and use of modern technology?
3. Globalisation: Should we take more advantage of the opportunities created by the growing integration of the world economy and, if so, how?
4. Exchange rate: Would a different exchange rate policy (e.g. alignment with Australia) encourage the generation of more high-paying jobs in New Zealand?
5. Sectors: What sectors offer the greatest scope for generating more high-paying jobs, and how should we encourage them?
6. Regions: What, if anything, would generate a more even pattern of high-paying jobs between the regions of New Zealand?
7. Tax: What tax policies would generate more high-paying jobs, while still achieving society's social and environmental objectives?
8. Unemployment: What policies would make it easier for unemployed people to move into and generate jobs?
9. Immigration: What changes in immigration policy, if any, would generate more high-paying jobs?
10. Sharing: What policies, if any, should be adopted to share the available work more fairly among those who want to work?
