Ice causing hazards for motorists

Road crews are out in icy areas this morning trying to grit the roads before there are more accidents, but they are being abused by impatient drivers.

There is black ice in areas around the country where the temperature fell to freezing overnight.

Cars have slid off roads in the Nelson and Blenheim areas.

There have also been problems in the Bay of Plenty and Tokoroa area, including State Highway 1, State Highway 30 and State Highway 32 at Atiamuru and Whakamaru.

The road crews are asking for tolerance.
