KEY POINTS:
The transit lanes on the North Shore state that vehicles with three passengers may use the lanes during peak hours. If your vehicle has only two seats, can you use these lanes provided there are two passengers? Bryan Smith, North Shore.
The short answer is no, not even if you drive a nice red Chrysler Crossfire. The council appreciates that fitting three people into a two-seater vehicle may be difficult - humour from the council? - but the lanes are for cars with three or more occupants, buses and taxis, motorcycles and cycles.
Deuxberry Rd connects Exmouth Rd to College Rd. At the Exmouth Rd intersection there is a stop sign on Deuxberry, but nothing at the College Rd end. This is a problem, as many drivers seem not to know the right turn give way rule. All other roads leading into College Rd have stop or give way signs, and also the shopping centre carparks where they meet College Rd. The situation has worsened recently because of the closure of the Onewa Rd motorway offramp, resulting in extra traffic using College Rd. Would North Shore City Council correct this situation if I offered to pay for the sign? Mike Salter, Northcote.
No need to go that far, Mike. Council representatives have been for a look, and they agree with your concerns. The intersection does need attention, and it will get it. A give way sign will be installed, as well as "no stopping at all times" lines around the mouth of the intersection. The work should be done by Christmas.
The old Albany Highway has had extensive changes made to the roading. However, where the new roading meets the old, outside Hasbro, the surface is potholed and uneven. This is exacerbated every time there is heavy rain. When will a new surface be completed? Philip Garthwaite, North Shore.
I apologise for the delay in replying to this query, Philip, but you have probably noticed that the work has been done. There are still some potholes on a private vehicle crossing near the area you mention but the council has asked the owner of the crossing to fix it, as it believes it compromises road user safety.
Every time I have returned to the North Shore from Pt Chevalier at night lately, the Bridge approach has been closed, with the notice at the bottom of Curran St. Could we possibly have a notice at the top of Curran St, so we know to use College Hill? Edith Fyfe, Northcote.
It's already been moved. It was temporarily moved to the bottom of Curran St after a residential request (how does that work?) but it's now back at Jervois Rd. The Curran St bridge onramp is closed Saturday to Thursday nights from about 7pm to 5.30am for strengthening work on the box girders (clip-ons). There's a detour via Fanshawe St.
