The Waterview onramp transit lane to the Northwestern Motorway is closed for a month. This is the second such closure since the transit lane opened just a few months ago. Can you tell me what the latest closure is for, and whether this work is ongoing? George Kirkwood, Avondale.
This transit, or priority, lane is currently closed temporarily while a stormwater treatment pond for the Northwestern Motorway is being built. The work started last month, and the lane should be open again by the end of the year.
I am intrigued to know what the letters G B A K stand for. They are written on the concrete piers below the Harbour Bridge at the Northcote end, and can be seen from the city side. I have also seen them above the arch at the entrance to the Parnell rail tunnel. Any ideas? Graham Taggart, Chatswood.
It's graffiti, sometimes known as urban art. The letters are the artist's signature.
My family and I often travel down Edmonton Rd in Henderson, and we always wonder what the AA sign at the entrance to Tui Glen Motor Camp means. The sign says 'Campervan P.O.P.' Pauline Murray, Henderson.
It means Park Over Property. The New Zealand Campervan Association has a lease over part of Tui Glen, so that its members can park overnight in a secure area. The sign identifies this location to members. Apparently it's a well-known sign for campervanners.
Are there any plans for traffic lights instead of a roundabout at the intersection of Mahia and Coxhead Rds in Manurewa? There are queues most mornings on Coxhead Rd back towards Wattle Downs, and not a lot of other options to get on to Mahia Rd heading towards the motorway. Fleur Scott, Wattle Downs.
Manukau City Council says that there are plans, but they are a couple of years away yet, because some properties are still to be bought. In the meantime, the council plans to put lights in on the Mahia Rd approaches to the intersection during this financial year. This should create gaps for the traffic trying to get out of Coxhead Rd.
When is the old sewer line across Hobson Bay going to be demolished, and when will it be finished? Charles Goldie, Remuera.
Last things first. The new 3km tunnel, being built at a cost of $118.6 million, is due to be commissioned next month. Demolition of the old pipeline, as well as the pumphouse and landscaping work, will be done in the first six months of next year.
Would you know whether, if and when the Supercity goes ahead, we will receive only one rates bill, so that the regional council rates bill will be joined with that from the city council? Sally Morgan, Auckland.
Yes, as I understand it.
