Can you please tell me when the discarded Auckland Harbour Bridge centre barriers that are currently sitting on the shoulder by Northcote are going to be removed? They are a real eyesore. Craig Player, Birkenhead.
I was taught that when you finished a job you tidied up after yourself. It's an idea that seems to have gone out of fashion. However, the barriers, which were replaced in February, have been earmarked for use on a Southern Motorway project in the near future.
Traffic lights have been installed at the T-junction of Alfriston and Porchester Rds in Manurewa but they haven't been turned on yet. Can you tell me when this will happen, as this can be a very dangerous intersection at peak periods. Margaret Honan, Manurewa.
The lights were turned on last Friday. The delay was caused by difficulty getting power to the lights because of bad weather.
When Newmarket was having its grand facelift, I thought, "Now we old bus users will get at least seats, if not shelters, in Khyber Pass and Broadway", but no. Obviously the decision-makers do not have to try holding their parcels in all weathers for 20 minutes or more on tiring legs. Any answers? (Mrs) M.J. Hobbs, Epsom.
And, similarly:
Why has the seat at the bus stop along from the Onehunga Post Shop been moved, especially when it is a very well-used bus stop? If anything, there should be a proper bus shelter. Are there any plans to have a new seat put in place, perhaps a longer one than the original one which has been removed? Could they also put seats for the bus stops outside 277 Broadway and on the other side of Broadway? If they are wanting to get more people using the buses, surely they should be doing more, such as including seating at bus stops. Miss Katherine Scott, Onehunga.
The council is aware that the lack of seating at the bus stops outside 277 causes problems for those carrying large amounts of shopping. Unfortunately, the large number of pedestrians in the area, combined with narrow pavements, leaves no room for seats.
Better news in Onehunga, however. The seat outside the Post Shop has now been replaced with a bus shelter, so that weary shoppers can rest and keep dry.
