KEY POINTS:
Sent on February 8: Just west of the Constellation overbridge there are two signs, Constellation Drive and Upper Harbour Drive, facing north. They can be seen only in one's rear view mirror when using the northbound onramp, which renders them useless.
Sent on February 26: One of the two signs has now been removed, leaving an even more ludicrous situation. Coming off the southbound off-ramp you are faced with two signs which distinguish Constellation Drive and Upper Harbour Highway, on the eastern side of the overbridge.Turning right on to Upper Harbour Highway you go under the overbridge and the one remaining sign indicates, incorrectly, that you are back on Constellation Drive. Can this please be rectified?
Marsden Stanton, Auckland.
Whoops. Transit has asked its contractors to move the signs so that they make sense.
With all the motorway roadworks in the last few years, a number of the Merge Like a Zip signs have been removed, but as the work is completed the signs have not been reinstated. When is this likely to happen?
Tania Helyer, North Shore.
The Merge Like a Zip billboard campaign is part of Transit's Motorway Manners series. The campaign ran for three months, as scheduled, and because it was so successful in drawing attention to this safety issue, it will be run again soon.
What are the rules regarding 50cc scooters and motorways? I use one to get from Greenhithe to Hobsonville and Westgate. Now that the new motorway has opened with Upper Harbour Bridge as part of it, am I still able to ride my scooter across it? And what about the main Harbour Bridge? Can I ride across that too?
Lindsay Fenwick, Greenhithe.
Providing you can keep up with the traffic (a minimum of about 80km/h) and you have the appropriate licence, there's no problem.
With the Mt Roskill part of the State Highway 20 extension to be completed in a year or so, are there any plans to upgrade Richardson and/or Carrington Rds to account for the increased traffic flows? Also, will the Waterview interchange be upgraded to allow traffic from Carrington Rd to go into the city on the motorway? If not, it will be at least six years before the next section is completed, which will provide an onramp from the SH20 extension but still nothing from Carrington Rd. John Mitchell, Auckland.
The intersection of Maioro St and Richardson Rd is in the process of being widened as part of the SH20 Mt Roskilll extension so motorway traffic can get to Sandringham. The current connections for traffic on Carrington Rd will not change with the advent of the Waterview project. However, you can use the SH16 (Northwestern Motorway) Great North Rd onramp citybound. SH20 will connect with the Northwestern at Waterview, but it will not connect with local roads.
