KEY POINTS:
I have been watching with interest the development of light-controlled onramps on the Northwestern Motorway. The onramps begin as two lanes but quite quickly narrow to one lane. However, the signs say one car per green light per lane. Who has the right of way, or is this a panelbeaters' Christmas present? Graeme Darby, Waitakere City.
The Transport Agency's project director, Peter McCombs, says there isn't a right of way as such. Vehicles are expected to merge like a zip, as the signs exhort. From observation, it's often a case of whoever is first off the grid gets ahead, but as there should be only two cars moving on each green light, a little courtesy and common sense usually sorts it out.
Are there any plans for more parking at Albany bus station? Recently I tried to get a park at 9.30am and after driving around the surrounding roads I ended up parking at the new shopping centre. As it was only for two or three hours this was fine, but I would have been towed after four hours. Elaine Pollock, Okura.
The carpark capacity at Albany park-and-ride busway station was extended to 500 last year. The North Shore City Council, which is responsible for the station, has no plans to increase it.
I live next to the motorway at Mt Wellington. I have a fence about 2.5m high, and it's falling over, towards my house. I have contacted the Transport Agency, which told me that because the fence is on private land it cannot help. It has tried propping it up, but says it will no longer do so. Because I am not allowed to walk on the motorway I have no access to the outside of the fence where all the posts are - it is an iron fence. Because of the height of the fence I cannot get over it, and anyway there are potholes and foliage. I'm in a bind - what can I do? Michael Franklin, Mt Wellington.
If you apply, the Transport Agency can give you written permission to go on to the reserve to fix the fence from the motorway side. It will also outline conditions intended to protect you and motorists while you're working.
Will it be possible to drive from the bottom of Olsen Ave, where the Hayr Rd bridge starts, underneath the bridge to get to Melrose Rd, Stamford Park Rd, etc? I go this way every day to get to Cameron Pools, and if I have to go via Hillsborough Rd and Richardson Rd I get caught up in heavy traffic. Anna Kofoed, Hillsborough.
The Hayr Rd bridge is now open in both directions, but you can get from Olsen Ave to Melrose by taking a right turn just before the bridge. Coming back the other way, motorists from Melrose Rd can drive under the bridge, turn right on to the bridge and then get to the Carr Rd roundabout.
