A special presentation acknowledging his 50th centre title was made to Masterton's Ian Monaghan when Bowls Wairarapa held their fourth annual awards dinner at the Masterton Cosmopolitan Club last Saturday.
Monaghan started the 2013-14 season with 45 centre titles in the bag and brought up the half-century by taking out the open singles, pairs, triples and fours as well as the champion of champion pairs.
Gold stars were presented to Scott MacKenzie of Masterton (five centre titles), Neville Smith of Martinborough (10), Makaia Campbell of Masterton (15). Judith Wyeth of Masterton (15), Warren Fisher of Masterton (20) and Ian Monaghan of Masterton (50) while centre badges went to Jenny Mahupuku (Masterton Park), Joan Ward (Lansdowne), Hayden Frew (Martinborough), Gail Hemi (Greytown), Ronald Saunders (Masterton) and Elwyn Flannery (Eketahuna).
Monaghan completed a huge night by also being named Player of the Year while other special award winners were John Wright (Official of the Year), Janelle Frew (Administrator of the Year), Scott MacKenzie (Junior Player of the Year), Warren Wyeth (Outstanding Contribution to Bowls Wairarapa) and Masterton club (Club of the Year).
