Shannon was surrendered into the care of the SPCA because her former owner could not provide enough food for her.
The 19-year-old mare was pregnant and in extremely poor condition when she arrived at the village.
She gave birth to her female foal, Pistachio, on November 30.
SPCA marketing manager Martin Mackenzie said the horse and foal would have to be adopted together as Pistachio had not been weaned.
"They are beautiful horses with wonderful natures and temperaments," he said.
Mr Mackenzie said the horse and foal would be best suited to "really experienced horse people", with large paddocks and plenty of food and water.
Anyone wanting to adopt Shannon and Pistachio should contact the SPCA on (09) 256-7300.
