KEY POINTS:
Gypsy is the Bridget Jones of dogs. This slightly chunky staffordshire bull terrier cross just needs someone with lots of affection to give her, and she will love you in return.
She is vocal and physically strong, and needs a family to exercise with.
"She is a gorgeous dog, who loves to play, especially with tennis balls," said dog adoption counsellor Kathryn Sutton.
Gypsy is 18 months old and has been at the SPCA since November 7, when her previous owners gave her up because they could no longer care for her.
To adopt Gypsy or another animal in need contact your local SPCA.
Gypsy's Village ID is: 103984
Call to young readers
This month, the Herald featured a story about Job, an abused dog rescued by the SPCA.
Job is now doing well, with lots of care and support from the community.
Monique Woodward, 11, from Viscount School in Mangere, raised $218 through a bake sale to help Job on his way to recovery.
Over the next month we would like to hear stories from our young readers (12 and under) who have assisted an animal in need.
The winner will receive an SPCA cat or dog T-shirt, designed by Mari Pettersson, and the chance to be Bob Kerridge's special guest at the opening of the new SPCA Auckland Education Centre on February 17.
Send your stories and photos to summer@nzherald.co.nz with "Holiday Animal Hero" in the subject line.
