4 Todd Ave, New Lynn
KEY POINTS:
We came here because we live out west and quite often head to the inner suburbs for brunch but we were keen to find a cafe in our area that we could make our local.
Parking was easy and plentiful. Even with the traffic heading to nearby Lynnmall we managed to get a park out front.
We walked in and immediately thought the decor could afford to be updated and overall the cafe was a bit dark. Fortunately, though, there was plenty of seating outside in the sun with big umbrellas for shade. There is also semi-enclosed seating outside should the weather turn bad.
The most unusual thing on the menu was tiger prawns stuffed with spinach, pinenuts and lemon sealed in beer batter with roast peach chutney mayonnaise.
We ordered french toast made with brioche served with grilled bacon, banana and maple syrup ($14); eggs benedict with grilled bacon ($14); and a side of hash browns ($4.50). All tasted great and were terrific value for money, keeping us full through most of the day. The service was excellent. We were greeted at the door with a menu and immediately asked what we would like to drink. Glasses of iced water with a slice of lemon were bought to our table as we sat down.
The coffee was perfect, not too strong and a nice temperature. We recommend if you come here you check out the all-day lunch menu. There looked like some great dishes that are slightly different from the norm.
Overall we thought we could definitely make this our new local. Even though the cafe is situated on the intersection of two busy roads, we hardly noticed.
