Murdered Feilding farmer Scott Guy's sister cannot get it out of her head that in two days it will be exactly three months since he was shot just metres from his house.
Mr Guy was killed in his farm's driveway on the morning of July 8, but almost three months later police are still appealing to the public for information that might help solve the case.
"It never, ever leaves our minds. We think about it constantly," said Mr Guy's sister, Nikki Guy.
Police have followed leads all over the country, and are now focusing on three elements: three stolen chocolate Labrador puppies, two cars seen driving away from the property on the morning, and the shotgun used as the murder weapon.
They have returned several times to the road where Scott Guy was murdered, Aorangi Rd, which has been cursed with several fires and burglaries in the past couple of years.
They have investigated sporting equipment in relation to burglaries and work gloves as part of the murder case.
Scott Guy himself had recently experienced a suspicious fire and vandalism on his property.
The seemingly idyllic rural road, just a few kilometres from Feilding's town centre, was also the site of a plane crash less than a month after the murder.
But the road has nevertheless had at least two families move in since, and they said they were happy there.
Police have widened their public appeal by featuring the case on TVNZ's Police Ten-7, set to air tomorrow night.
"It's weird because we're such a normal family," Ms Guy said.
"I just can't believe that he's gone. It's very hard to comprehend. I still think I'm going to see him. I think I'm going to wake up and find it's been a really bad dream."
Ms Guy tries to keep herself busy and distracted, but she is conscious of the upcoming anniversary.
She has stood for council and is trying to look ahead to Saturday, when she will find out if she has been elected - but she cannot get her brother out of her head.
"I'm trying to keep as busy as I can, then all of a sudden it just hits you that it's real."
Ms Guy had decided to run for council only two days before Scott was killed, and she was due to judge Miss Manawatu the day after.
"Our whole life has come crashing down and stopped. I think, why hasn't everything else stopped? It feels like everything should have stopped."
It was horrible not knowing who did it or why, and she could not get her head around it, she said.
Mr Guy left behind his pregnant wife, Kylee, who has left town, afraid the killer is still out there.
She gave birth to their son last month.
I still think I'm going to see him - sister
