The widow of slain Manurewa liquor store owner Navtej Singh says her life has been a "living hell" after farewelling her husband on Thursday and a day later her grandfather, who died soon after being told of Mr Singh's death.
And she says she will never forgive his killers.
Speaking for the first time since her husband's "senseless killing" eight days Harjinder Kaur thanked the New Zealand public for their support.
Thirty-year-old father of three Mr Singh was shot in the chest with a .22 rifle his Riverton Road liquor store just 350 metres from the couple's house around 9pm last Saturday.
He died 24 hours later in hospital.
Seven young men have appeared in Manukau District Court accused of charges ranging from murder to aggravated robbery.
"It is heartwarming and very comforting to know so many people feel for us and feel our loss. It has been very much appreciated," Mrs Kaur told the Sunday News through an interpreter yesterday.
"I'm still very much in shock. It's been very hard. The kids are too young to understand what's happening," she said.
The couple have three children - Hakirat, five, who has just started at Randwick Road school, close to the shop where her father was shot, Narnoor, three, who is staying with family in India and six-month-old Harrop.
"Hakirat is waiting for her father to come home from work," said Mrs Kaur.
"I have explained to her and took her to the funeral place but she is waiting for her dad."
Mrs Kaur said her husband was killed for beer and a few dollars and she could never forgive those responsible.
"They must have a strong sentence. I don't want to think about them.
"I can never forgive them. There is no point in forgiving them."
