Hyundai is voluntarily recalling some of its popular Santa Fe SUVs.
The high-flying Korean manufacturer says the recall is purely a precautionary measure, to inspect vehicles that could potentially be affected by a problem that may result in fuel leaks.
There are 1700 Santa Fes in New Zealand that will be covered by the recall, but not all will have the problem.
Insufficient clearance between the engine cover assembly and fuel return hose is the reason behind the precautionary callback.
Santa Fe models built between September 2009 and December last year, and fitted with the 145kW R-series 2.2-litre turbo diesel are the only vehicles requiring inspection.
A statement from Hyundai says that the lack of clearance could cause interference between the two components, and if left unattended for an extended period could cause a fuel leak.
