KEY POINTS:
Ferry staff today pulled a hypothermic man from the water after spotting him clinging to a pier in Auckland Harbour.
St John paramedics said the very cold and "confused" man had been in the water for about two hours before Fullers Ferry staff rescued him and applied first aid.
Advanced Paramedic Nick Scott said the staff "did all the right stuff".
"They got rid of his wet gear and put warm stuff on him. They had it all under control and in a warm environment when we arrived."
St John then treated the man, believed to be in his late 50s, for hypothermia and cuts to his limbs before transporting him to Auckland Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
St John was called to the emergency about 10.45am.
